International Volvo Classics Meeting 1999

The eight international Volvo classic car meeting in Rosmalen on 4/5 September 1999 was a great success. The number of visitors was higher than last year. Not less than twelve Volvo clubs were present, including the Swedish Car Club from Belgium and the Volvo Club e.V. from Germany. Dutch clubs present were:
  • Volvo PV 544 Club
  • Volvo V-44 Association
  • Volvo 140 Register
  • Volvo 164 Register
  • Volvo 1800 ES register
  • Volvo 240-260 Register
  • Volvo 240 Turbo register
  • Volvo Coupé Bertone Register
  • Volvo 480Register
  • Volvo 700 Association

Because each club had its own parking lot, every Volvo could be parked along its fellow-breed.

Apart from club stands, there were also several other stands. These offered an array of Volvo articles. Eyecatcher was importer Volvo the Netherlands. Their theme was: convertible. Of course, this attracted lots of visitors. In the past, Volvo has offered only one convertible: model 1900. And then there's the new Volvo C70 convertible. These two cars on one show is without precedent. To top it off, one of the few prototypes of the Volvo 480 convertible was also on the stand. Summum for us Volvo 480 adepts.

The Autodrome in Rosmalen not only features the annual Volvo meeting, it also has a large collection of over 200 exceptional historic and classic cars. In their new exhibition center, the Volvo 480 is shown as one of the three cars to characterise the period from the 80's to present. The two other cars are the DeLorean and the Ford Focus.

The Volvo 480-Register stand also showed a Volvo 480. The new stand was the meeting place for lots of Volvo 480 enthusiasts. The internet site was presented, in off-line mode, and various Volvo 480 articles were sold. Visitors were welcomed to guess the mileage of the Volvo 480 convertible. On the parking lot, the beautiful sight of numerous Volvo 480's in a row could be experienced. Shining bright, they showed their best. Even Volvo 480's with foreign plates could be seen. Fellow internet webmasters Christer Nilsson and Tommy Erikson had come over from Sweden. Christer later described his visit in our guestbook: It was like heaven (I hope).

Mr. Van den Biggelaar from Amersfoort won the contest on a draw. The Volvo 480 convertible had only 158 kilometers on its counter. He won a scale model of the Volvo 480 convertible.
